On 1 July 2010 the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) replaced the Freedom of Information Act 1989 (FOI Act).
The GIPA Act establishes a public right to information by:
- encouraging proactive release of government information
- giving members of the public an enforceable right to access government information, and
- specifying that access be restricted only when an overriding public interest against disclosure exists.
UTS manages public access to government information in accordance with the GIPA Act:
